I posted on Instagram this weekend that last week, while in Paris, my boyfriend became my fiancé! Thank you all so, so much for your sweet comments. We read every single one and we are very touched.
This is quite a bit more personal than my blogs typically are, but my entire business and brand are about creating a life that you love, not just a side hustle or business, so this actually seems to fit right in. So, here’s how he asked!
A couple of weeks ago, Adam and I decided to go to Europe for a week to spend some time together just us two. Paris is a very special place for me as I studied abroad there in high school and have always loved going back to visit, so I was thrilled when Adam agreed to add it to our agenda. I didn’t really suspect any proposal as we planned the trip since I handled most of our day-to-day agenda and he didn’t really have any special requests.
We arrived Saturday morning and spent the day wondering around and laying in the Champs de Mars, next to the Eiffel Tower. We had decided to go to Luxembourg Gardens early the next morning since we figured it’d be less crowded, and planned on going to Notre Dame after since it was Sunday and it wasn’t too far of a walk.
Little did I know, Adam had made me believe I had planned the day, but he was the one with his plan up his sleeve. We got to Luxembourg Gardens and were delighted to find they were indeed empty. Adam requested we go to the Medici Foundation and as we reached the top, we told me he had a question, and I turned around and he was on his knee!
It was the absolute perfect proposal for us; very quiet and private, but with the stunning backdrop of the Luxembourg Gardens, and not to mention, the Eiffel Tower in the distance! The whole thing took my breath away, but thankfully, my thoughtful fiancé hired a photographer in advance to hide and capture the whole thing.
After that, we got a bottle of champagne and went back to where he proposed and drank the bottle, talking about our pasts, our relationship, our future, our parent’s marriage and everything in between. I will treasure that time forever. Then, we were lucky enough to have a week in Europe left to soak up the commitment we had just made and celebrate each other and our relationship.
Adam has been Urban 20 Something’s number one fan from the start and I feel so blessed to be embarking on a marriage of such support. I met Adam when I was only 22, but it didn’t take me long to see how thoughtful, kind, funny, smart and ambitious he was. I’m so grateful to have these traits in a husband and the father of our children.
For now, though, more champagne!
