I admit that I was not so open to hiring coaches and mentors or being part of masterminds for the first half of my business.
Looking back, it’s no coincidence that my business was so slow and didn’t take off. But I was stuck in all sorts of different reasons “why” I didn’t need mentors or coaches.
“It’s not worth spending money on – it’s expensive and I can’t afford it!”
“Isn’t being an entrepreneur about figuring things out on your own anyway?”
“There’s so much free information out there, how can it actually be worth it to pay people thousands (nowadays in the tens of thousands) of dollars to teach me?”
… You get the idea. Maybe you’ve even been saying some of these things to yourself, too.
A little over a year ago, I started changing my tune. I wish I could say that I sort of come to my sense. But the truth is, I reached a point where I got fed up with my business not growing and my dreams not coming true, and I was no longer willing to take my own excuses.
I thought I had nothing else to lose, I might as well go all in and try.
It’s no coincidence that my business started really taking off quickly thereafter. I’ve since been in a service-based year-long program, three masterminds, a Facebook Ads and marketing year-long club, and a business financial advisory program. Now, coaching and consulting is part of my monthly budget.
Here are my four takeaways from working with hiring coaches and mentors and being in masterminds:
1. Shortcuts are critical
I resisted hiring people for quite some time because I was convinced that if they had learned something, I could probably learn it on my own too!
This was flawed thinking for success for two reasons.
- I have no idea how others have learned things, on their own or not, and frankly, it’s not worth my time trying to decipher that.
- Even if I could learn things on my own, I don’t have time to learn them alone. I have a mission and I have big goals – that requires moving quickly!
2. Your energy is dependent on those around you
You probably know that you’re the result of the five people you spend the most time with, and so did I.
What I didn’t realize is how impactful and influential being in HIGHER energy would help me.
I’ve found myself being more consistently positive, brave, inspired, courageous and simply happier since I’ve found coaches and mentors I admire.
3. You don’t have to do this alone!
I can’t imagine how lonely it would become working for myself if I didn’t have mentors.
We’re not supposed to do this alone, and it’s quite a bit more fun doing it with others!
4. Investments are truly that – investments!
I can’t believe how many years I spent terrified of spending money.
It held me back so much from investing in myself and getting the support and education I needed. But business education is not a splurge on a pair of Louboutins!
It’s an investment, which means you make the money back (time and time again!).
So, if you’re wanting to move forward, if there’s a goal that you want to reach, if you want to be around those that GET your dreams, know that you don’t have to do this alone.
There are so many that are cheering for you and so many that can help you.
Your dreams are closer than you think!
Here’s to you achieving them!
Best,
Leah
