August Recap
August and March are typically my least favorite months of the year.
August in NYC is… HOT and empty. I’m usually ready for the fall halfway through and we still have some of the hottest days ahead of us.
But this year? August has been the best month of the year for me. A month in which so much hard work came to fruition.
The last year has demanded versions of me I didn’t know I had.
A year ago, I became a mother of two. I knew and was excited for the version of me that would come from that.
What I couldn’t have imagined were all the other things I’d become…
- When my husband’s career change happened abruptly, I became the sole provider for our family at only eight weeks postpartum.
- When I realized my baby would not take a bottle, I became a mom who would make herself available to exclusively feed him every ~three hours for the following year, without anyone else being able to do a feeding, while still running my business.
- When my sleep was compromised much more this postpartum than it was during my first postpartum, I became a mom and business owner who could show up with broken sleep. When I hosted my Mastermind retreat in April, I had one night where I slept a total of 3 hours and hosted the retreat the next day.
- When our Colorado dream home became available during what felt like “wrong timing,” with two kids, self-employment and so much unknown, I became the woman who implicitly trusted herself and believed that things were happening at the ~perfect time~ even with the challenges accompanying them.
Remembering the last year, I don’t think I particularly felt down or depressed in any given moment. I genuinely enjoyed it for the most part. But I can look back with so much appreciation and respect for all the versions of myself I was stretched to become.
August Business Highlights
Six New Clients
For the first time in years, I opened up private coaching spots to my entire audience. I don’t typically work with clients 1:1, and when I have it’s mostly been long-term clients or clients currently in an existing program that have craved deeper levels of support. With my capacity opening up this fall, I was really excited to work with clients at this level of depth again and absolutely love those who have enrolled. This was really fun to roll out!
Expanding my team
With my business in such momentum, my longtime assistant is being promoted to Operations Manager and I’ve found and hired a new assistant. It feels so good to feel supported (and to be in a position where more support is such an easy choice).
August Life Highlights
My sister had a baby!
My baby sister birthed her beautiful daughter at home in the Costa Rican tropics! I was so blessed to be able to fly down just a week after she was born and support my sister in her early postpartum. I cooked for her, cleaned for her, helped her situate in her life with baby, and it was such a special time. It was also the first time I left my own baby in his 11 months of life. With him having refused a bottle as a baby, I was nervous about how he’d do with me leaving. We both did great but really missed each other!
My baby turned one
One of the most bittersweet experiences in motherhood: seeing your baby grow and thrive is the biggest privileges but doesn’t always come easily! I shared my personal birthday thoughts here.
We bought a house!
After a year of careful thought and conversations around whether or not we could pull this off, my husband and I decided to purchase a home in Colorado that has a great deal of significance to my family. We aren’t moving there (I’m asked this every time I share it!) and it will be a second home/ rental property. We do envision our family spending weeks or even months there every year. It felt SO good to close on this house. Like we summited a huge mountain. 🙂
Income Breakdown
Private Coaching- 50% of revenue
With opening up private coaching spots, it’s no surprise that this was the highest category this month, making up around 50% of my income. I’ve seen a lot of hate toward private coaching in the online business space in the name of scalability. The nay-sayers protest that you can’t scale it and you’ll trade your time for money. First off, this is simply wrong. You can absolutely scale it, mostly through your pricing rate and pricing structure. But beyond that, the best entrepreneurs I know aren’t obsessing over how ScAlAbLe everything can be and are just getting to work. If you don’t offer direct work with your customers, I recommend considering it right now. In this world of AI fatigue, working with humans, as a human, matters.
Group coaching- 30% of revenue
This continues to be a main focus in my business. I love the combination of working with clients directly but doing so in a community setting. Speaking of, I’m gearing up for my Mastermind retreat in Paris in September! Follow along for more here.
Passive + low-ticket products- 14% of revenue
My Passive Park Sales system continues to be a staple in my business. Not just in revenue (as you can see it’s not the highest at all), but in lead generation. Nearly all my new private clients initially found me through this system, and not a single one took me up on a sales call before signing. Though I would always do a sales call, it’s pretty powerful to see it’s not needed thanks to my strong nurturing.
Support coaching- 6% of revenue
A small but very leveraged stream of income is the coaching done by my amazing support coaches. I recommend considering this if you want to scale a service but aren’t sure how to clone yourself!
Thoughts from August
This was the best month of the year for me so far. It felt like so many things I’ve worked hard for- saving to buy a second house, exclusively breastfeeding my son for a year, opening my private coaching spots, all came to fruition.
I’ve thought a lot about how flashy my business and life felt in the early days. The Louboutins I’d purchase to celebrate a five-figure month. The champagne I’d have on a Tuesday to embody the freedom of self employment and celebration. The random trips booked on a whim because I was cubicle free. It was all so shiny.
On the surface, my life doesn’t have as many dopamine hits nowadays. I can’t imagine life without five-figure months, so I don’t buy shoes every month to celebrate. Not to mention, I don’t think I could squeeze my feet into them, two pregnancies later, if I tried!
Instead, my day to day is spent dancing between working on my trusty 13″ laptop and chasing my toddlers around. I expect more for myself, so I’m not constantly splurging in the name of celebrating. So when I’m able to see so much of that discipline come to light, like in a seven-figure second home, it’s a reminder that building BIG often means building in silence. Building alone. Building when no one is watching. Building when the internet makes you feel like you should be doing/being more. But it’s oh so worth it to stay disciplined and pour into the epic vision you have for your life.
