Urban 20 Something, Leah Gervais' reflections after a month in Miami!

Share from Leah

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that a month ago, my husband and I moved from our home in New York City to Miami, Florida. It was a somewhat bittersweet decision as we loved everything about our life in New York, but we were ready for a change after the devastation in the city due to COVID-19.

Here are some reflections on what I’ve learned in this past month:

1- Have online income streams. It’s no secret I’m obsessed with entrepreneurship and online business. It’s my entire brand. And this move was just another example of how valuable an online business is. At this day in age, I truly believe there’s no reason not have income streams online to take more control of your life, your income, and your choices. At least as a side hustle, but if you want it to be your full-time business, even more freedom!

2- Life’s too short to go through the motions. Near the end of our time in NYC, I started feeling some similarities between my day-to-day life now and when I was at my 9-5 job. In short, days were starting to blend together, I was overly excited for the weekends, and my days were designed by regulations, not desire. Though it makes sense in a pandemic to have far less options, I still refused to keep going through the motions, which was a huge deciding factor of us in moving. Ask yourself today- am I doing what I desire, or what I feel like I have to do?

3- Don’t take any excuses, especially not your own. This is more a product of the pandemic overall, but let me know if you agree in feeling like you’ve recently realized how short life is and how unavailable you are to live in any way other than your vision. The longer I’m in business, the more I see how much I’ve held myself back because of fear in the past- fear of spending money, fear of judgment, fear of failure. I have felt less tolerance for that fear nowadays- have you?!
